A handbag is nearly always functional and fashionably-designed.
Most commomly it is used to hold a number of items such as a wallet, keys, and tissues.
We see a lot of variety in handbags: Purses are normally used exclusively by women, though men sometimes use one instead of a backpack; such a Purse is sometimes self-consciously called a "murse" or "manbag". It can also be bluntly called a "man-purse".
A medium-to-small-sized bag with a short handle, designed to be carried (clutched) in one's hand is often described as a Clutch. A larger Purse with two handles, is often referred to as a Tote.
A Pocketbook is similar to a Purse (in the British English sense), but can be used for the carrying of sheets of paper as well. Purses are also made-up of zari, sterling silver, leather, cloth etc.
A security Purse is the best thing to protect styles-the carrier from travel theft. The purse has an invisible stainless steal strap inside the material and a protectant on the part where the zipper is.

Hobo: This style of Purse is called a Hobo bag because it resembles the shape of the bindle on a stick that Hobos are portrayed as carrying over their shoulder in drawings and cartoons.
Satchel: The most famous use of a Satchel was in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy as used by Ford Prefect, which he uses to hold his towel and other odd items.
