A handbag is practically always functional and designed with fashion in mind.
In American English, a handbag is called a Purse (a small bag).
Different types of handbags: Purses are generally used exclusively by women, though men sometimes carry one as a smaller alternative to a backpack; such a Purse is sometimes self-consciously labelled as a "murse" or "manbag". It can also be bluntly called a "man-purse".
A medium-to-small-sized bag with a short handle, designed to be carried (clutched) in one's hand is often described as a Clutch. A larger Purse with two handles, is often called a Tote.
A Pocketbook is similar to a Purse (in the British English sense), but is used for the carrying of sheets of paper as well. Purses are also made-up of zari, sterling silver, leather, cloth etc.
A security Purse is made to protect other types-the carrier from travel theft. The purse takes advantage of an invisible stainless steal strap inside the cloth and a protectant to cover the zip.
Other types of handbag include :
Hobo: There are many different sizes and shapes of this popular woman's handbag/accessory.
Satchel: Like all bags, Satchels are easily customised with patches and various other creative textiles. No one really knows when the Satchel was invented. Some people believe that it was invented as a small purse or "carry-sack" for women in the Middle Ages.
Other types of Handbag include:
The Duffle: A large bag usually used for travel or sports, The Shopper, and The Cross body.
