A handbag is practically always functional and designed with fashion in mind.
In British English, a handbag is considerably larger than a Purse, which is a small money container similar to a wallet (but typically used by women) and including a compartment for coins.
Different types of handbags: Purses are usually used exclusively by women, though men sometimes find one useful to replace a backpack; such a Purse is sometimes self-consciously termed a "murse" or "manbag". It can also be bluntly called a "man-purse".
A medium-to-small-sized bag with a short handle, designed to be carried (clutched) in one's hand is often called a Clutch. A larger Purse with two handles, is often referred to as a Tote.
A Pocketbook is similar to a Purse (in the British English sense), but allows for the carrying of sheets of paper as well. Purses are also made-up of zari, sterling silver, leather, cloth etc.
A security Purse is the best thing to protect other types-a person's belongings from travel theft. The purse uses an invisible stainless steal strap inside the fabric and a protectant to cover the zip.
Other types of handbag include :
Hobo: Hobo bags are made out of soft, flexible materials and tend to slump, or slouch, when set down.
Satchel: The most famous use of a Satchel was in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy as used by Ford Prefect, which he uses to hold his towel and other odd items.
Other types of Handbag include:
The Duffle: A large bag traditionally used for travel or sports, The Shopper, and The Cross body.
