A handbag is nowdays usually functional and fashionably-designed.
In British English, a handbag is considerably larger than a Purse, which is a small money container similar to a wallet (but typically used by women) and including a compartment for coins.
We see a lot of variety in handbags: Purses are generally used exclusively by women, though men sometimes find one useful to replace a backpack; such a Purse is sometimes self-consciously called a "murse" or "manbag". It can also be bluntly called a "man-purse".
A medium-to-small-sized bag with a short handle, designed to be carried (clutched) in one's hand is often called a Clutch. A larger Purse with two handles, is often referred to as a Tote.
A Pocketbook is similar to a Purse (in the British English sense), but has a place for the carrying of sheets of paper as well. Purses are also made-up of zari, sterling silver, leather, cloth etc.
A security Purse is especially good to protect styles-you from travel theft. The purse uses an invisible stainless steal strap sewn into the material and a cover on the main zipper.

Hobo: This style of Purse is called a Hobo bag because it resembles the shape of the bindle on a stick that Hobos are portrayed as carrying over their shoulder in drawings and cartoons.
Satchel: The Satchel type of bag has existed for centuries and outdates the backpack that is common nowadays. Many people still think a Satchel is a ladies bag, but it really is unisex and there is no one who can not use a Satchel.
