A handbag is often functional and used as a fashion accessory.
In American English, a handbag is called a Purse (a small bag).
Variations of handbags: Purses are normally used exclusively by women, though men sometimes find one useful to replace a backpack; such a Purse is sometimes self-consciously referred to as a "murse" or "manbag". It can also be bluntly called a "man-purse".
A medium-to-small-sized bag with a short handle, designed to be carried (clutched) in one's hand is often termed a Clutch. A larger Purse with two handles, is often referred to as a Tote.
A Pocketbook is similar to a Purse (in the British English sense), but can be used for the carrying of sheets of paper as well. Purses are also made-up of zari, sterling silver, leather, cloth etc.
A security Purse is very handy to protect other types-your valuables from travel theft. The purse has an invisible stainless steal strap sewn into the cloth and a binding on the main zipper.
Some different handbag types are :
Hobo: The Hobo bag is a style of Handbag or Purse that is typically large and characterized by a crescent shape, a slouchy posture and a long strap designed to wear over the shoulder.
Satchel: Like all bags, Satchels are easily customised with patches and various other creative textiles. No one really knows when the Satchel was invented. Some people believe that it was invented as a small purse or "carry-sack" for women in the Middle Ages.
Other types of Handbag include:
The Duffle: A large bag mostly used for travel or sports, The Shopper, and The Cross body.
